Mill City Museum |
The 12,000-square-foot museum emerges from within the ruins of the limestone mill that was once the centerpiece of the Minneapolis flour empire – the Washburn A Mill. Originally built in 1878 and nearly destroyed by fire in 1991, this structure, a National Historic Landmark, serves its visitors with a new purpose – education, interpretation, preservation and entertainment.
One highlight of the museum is the world’s only Flour Tower, a multi-media elevator ride that reveals stories of the people who worked in the mills. The 30-seat ride travels between eight floors, offering glimpses of the magnificent machines that produced the world’s finest flour and insight into the lives of the workers who braved the harsh conditions in the mill.
