Montevideo

In the Historic Prairies Region, Montevideo is the seat of Chippewa County. It lies near the confluence of the Minnesota and Chippewa rivers. Less than 40 miles east of the South Dakota line, Hwys 7 and 29 meet US 212 there.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,290, a decrease of 209 since 1990.
