Coastal Region

Mississippi's Coastal Region will appeal to lovers of history as well as those looking for fun and relaxation. The cities of Laurel and Hattiesburg both have historic districts rich in turn-of-the-century mansions surrounded by lovely old oaks and azaleas. Also in Laurel is Mississippi's oldest and possibly best art museum, the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art.

For a change of pace, casinos and resorts along the Gulf of Mexico offer gaming, live entertainment, golf, spas and charter fishing. Ship Island, 12 miles offshore offers a welcoming beach with clear waters. One of NASA's leading facilities, the Stennis Space Center, is also located here on the coast.
