A must-see while in Chinook is the Bear Paw Battle Field, 16 miles south of town on Hwy 240. One of Montana's three units of Nez Perce National Historic Park, it is the site of the surrender of Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce Indians on Oct. 5, 1877.

Chinook is the seat of Blaine County, 22 miles east of Havre between Zurich and Lohman along US 2 on the banks of the Milk River near Bear's Paw Battlefield National Historic Park, the site of Chief Joseph's surrender.
