The Continental Divide

The Continental Divide is an imaginary line running along the peaks of the Rocky Mountains. In Montana to the east of the Divide, water drains through the Missouri-Mississippi into the Gulf of Mexico. Streams and rivers west of the Divide drain through the Columbia River system into the Pacific.

Glacier National Park straddles the divide at the border with Canada. On the south, the Divide becomes the border with Idaho.
