Before the
Lewis and Clark Expedition, Montana was inhabited by
Native Americans and Their Culture. The state is filled with
History. There were only nine
Montana Counties when Montana became a territory. The present capital is
Helena. A great variety of accommodations include
Motels, Hotels and Resorts,
Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns,
Guest Ranches and
RV Campground. The best known park in Montana is
Glacier National Park, but there are plenty of
Montana State Parks to visit. Many
Ghost Towns survive from the mining boom days. Thrill to
Whitewater Rafting or enjoy the more tranquil pleasure of
Wildlife Viewing.
Among the more unusual passtimes are Covered Wagons and Cattle Drives, Ballooning, and looking for fossils of Dinosaurs. The past is preserved in many Historical Museums and Historic Houses, while dozens of Art Galleries, Art Museums and Artists' Studios await the artisticly inclined.
Much of Montana is federally owned, so much of the recreation is provided by the Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and National Wildlife Refuges. There are many interesting ways to go Shopping, especially for Antiques and Montana Products.
