Aguascalientes is a colonial town named for the thermal springs found in the area. An agricultural and mining center since its inception, it was declared a settlement in 1575. In recent years it has attracted industry and a number of assembly plants. It is a modern city that boasts one of the largest bullfighting rings in the country and the marvelous vineyards of the surrounding countryside. It has also become a thriving convention center, boasting excellent facilities and deluxe hotels.
