Battleship North Carolina |
During 1941, the USS North Carolina underwent shakedown cruises. Due to frequent visits to Brooklyn Harbor, the ship earned the nickname "The Showboat"--and lived up to the name by serving in every major naval offensive in the Pacific, earning 15 battle stars.
The USS North Carolina serves as a memorial to the 10,000 North Carolinians of all military services who died in World War II.
A 2-hour self-guided tour includes visits to the bridge, the galley, sick bay, gun turrets and plotting, radio and engine rooms. A museum displays World War II artifacts and photographs.
