Bentonville Battleground State Hist Site |
This is the site of the largest land engagement in North Carolina. One of the last conflicts of the Civil War was fought here March 19-21, 1865. The Harper House was used as a hospital by both Union and Confederate troops during the war and is furnished as a Civil War field hospital. The visitor center offers exhibits and a slide presentation. Battle trenches, a cemetery and a history trail with exhibits are also on the grounds. Open Monday-Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 1-5pm, April-October; Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1-4pm, the rest of the year. Free to the public.
