Boone

Boone is located in Watauga County (of which it is the county seat) east of Winston-Salem, between Deep Gap and Sugar Grove along US Highway 421 near the Pisgah National Forest, Valle Crucis, Todd, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Ski Mountain.

Boone bears the name of the famous pioneer, but he was not born here and he didn't die here. Boone did supposedly have a hunting cabin here where he spent a great deal of time. The cabin was located where the campus of Appalachian State University is now.
