Clinton is located in Sampson County (of which it is the county seat) between Jacksonville and Fayetteville along Hwy 24 near Warsaw, Mount Olive, and Bladen Lakes State Forest. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 9,125, an increase of 740 since 1990.
