Goldsboro is located in Wayne County (of which it is the county seat) between Smithfield and Kinston along US Hwy 70 on the banks of the Neuse River near Mount Olive, Wilson, and Cliffs of the Neuse State Park. Goldsboro is home of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, home of the 4th Fighter Wing. In 2001 the military base received the Commander in Chief's Installation Excellence Award, the highest award given to a military base.
