Hayesville is located in Clay County (of which it is the county seat) between Murphy and Franklin along US Hwy 64 near Brasstown, Nantahala National Forest, the Hiwassee River, and Chatuge Lake. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 415, an increase of 136 since 1990.
