Located 5 miles east of Brevard and 10 miles southwest of Asheville Regional Airport, this beautiful facility opened in the spring of 2000 and is home to some 46 aircraft and a welcome destination for many hundreds of others each year. The comprehensive facilities of Transylvania County Airport are open to the public despite receiving no capital or operating support from public funds. A number of locals (including several of the Asheville Airport controllers) also refer to the facility as the Penrose Airport.
