Durham International Airport (RDU) is located in the heart of the Research Triangle area, equidistant from downtown
Durham and
Raleigh. The airport opened on May 1, 1943. It's first flight was an Eastern Airlines DC-3 on a flight from New York to Miami. The total number of passengers in 1999 was almost nine million.
