Dunseith is located in northern North Dakota in western
Rolette County about 75 miles northeast of
Minot and 13 miles south of the Canadian border.
The town is within several areas that attract outdoor enthusiasts including Lake Metigoshe State Park about 15 miles northwest of town. Smaller lakes frequented by fishermen include Willow Lake, 10 miles to the north-northwest; Carpenter Lake, 15 miles north of town and Lords Lake, about 5 miles to the southwest.
Built in 1972, Garden Gate Golf Course on Hwy 281 N. offers the public a chance to play their 9-hole facility. The course is a relatively short 2,450 yards long and plays to a par of 35. The layout caters to seniors and juniors alike as its official USGA rating is 31.4.
