Lake Metigoshe State Park

Constructed in the 1930s by the Works Progress Administration, Lake Metigoshe State Park is situated in the picturesque Turtle Mountains on the shores of Lake Metigoshe just south of the Canadian border in Bottineau County about 15 miles north-northeast of Bottineau.

The park covers 1,550 acres and provides 130 campsites for year-round visitors. Amenities include showers, group dorms, kitchen, hiking and cross country ski trails, picnic areas and playground.

Native Americans called the lake "Metigoshe Washegum," or "clear water lake surrounded by oaks." Today, the lake is popular with fishermen for its perch, northern pike, walleye. The scenic hills, aspen/birch groves and lush lakeside plantlife attract photographers and nature lovers, alike.
