Lisbon is located in southeastern North Dakota in Ransom County (of which it is the county seat) about 60 miles southwest of Fargo and 40 miles south-southeast of Valley City at the intersection of SRs 27 and 32 on the banks of the Sheyenne River.

Several outdoor recreational venues are within easy driving distance including Fort Ransom State Park about 15 miles northwest of town. Little Yellowstone Park offers full hookups as well as primitive camping spots and is located just up the river from the state park. Clausen Springs Recreational Area is another short hop up the river and was popular with Indians, fur trappers, and hunters from Pembina.

Lisbon Bissell Golf Course, built in 1920, is a 9-hole facility that is open to the public. Golfers will appreciate the challenge of this 3,150-yard layout which is open from April 15th through October 15th.
