McHenry is located in east central North Dakota in Foster County about 80 miles west-southwest of Grand Forks and 5 miles northeast of Juanita Lake.

Outdoor enthusiasts appreciate the proximity of several smaller lakes on which to hunt or fish. In addition, those who enjoy water skiing and other watersports, the town is only about 30 miles south of sizeable Devils Lake.
