Napoleon, founded in 1884 and named for storekeeper Napoleon Goodsill, is located in southern North Dakota in Logan County (of which it is the county seat) about 60 miles southeast of Bismarck.

As an historical footnote: In 1886, a group of about 100 people from Pennsylvania, know as "The Pennsylvania Colony," were brought here to establish roots. Because of winter temperatures which dropped to 47 below zero, bringing a blizzard a day for 100 days, and summer temperatures that soared to 118 degrees, the Colony vanished. CODE left
