Statue of Sakakawea

On the capitol grounds, this statue commemorates the 'Bird Woman' of the Shoshone tribe. As the wife of Charbonneau and interpreter with the Lewis and Clark expedition, she was invaluable as a guide and in obtaining horses from the Shoshone for mountain crossings.
