Ashley serving as the county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 3,397, a decrease of 624 over the 1990 census.
Two viable bodies of water can be found in the county: Lake Hoskins in the south and Green Lake, which supports Doyle Memorial State Park, in the northern section of the county.
