Brownville is located in
Nemaha County southeast of
Lincoln between
Auburn and Rockport along Highway 136 on the banks of the Missouri River near Brownville State Recreation Area and the Little Nemaha River.
In 1854, Richard Brown crossed the Missouri River bringing with him his family, a wife, three children, and three slaves to stake the land for establishment of a town. Brownville was a feeder route for the Oregon Trail and the Morman Trail.
