Built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the dam plays a major role in flood control for the Missouri River Basin. Guided tours of the plant are available. Lewis and Clark Visitor Center, on the bluff above the powerplant, contains exhibits and theater programs about the development of the Missouri River Basin.
