This central Nebraska recreation area provides some exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities, especially when joined with its neighbors -- Gallagher Canyon SRA, Elwood Reservoir Wildlife Management Area and Plum Creek WMA. While only 81 acres, Johnson Lake provides access to the 2,060-acre lake from three locations and has outstanding camping facilities. At the Main Area on the southeast end of the lake, the Commission operates a campground with gravel pads, complete with electrical hookups. There are also showers, restrooms, a dump station and an up-to-date fish cleaning station. The swimming beach is nearby.
