Long Lake State Recreation Area is located approximately 22 miles south of Johnstown in Brown County Nebraska. This lake is a natural sandhill lake consisting of 155 acres at normal water level. This tract of land was purchased from Charles M. and Mary L. Wolcott in 1930 and designated as a recreation area in 1960. A camping and picnic area is located on the southwest shore of the lake and is equipped with tables, fireplaces and toilets. Long Lake SRA provides some fishing opportunity in the summer and winter months with bullhead and northern pike being primary fish caught. Waterfowl hunting is the main game harvest potential offered by Long Lake. The shoreline has an abundance of vegetation affording natural blind sites for waterfowl hunting.
