Nebraska City is located in Otoe County (of which it is the county seat), east of Lincoln, between Syracuse and the Missouri State line along Hwy 2, near the banks of the Missouri River, Arbor Lodge State Historic Park and Marina State Recreation Area.

Nebraska City has over 300 acres of parks within the city, and are equipped with picnic facilities and childrens play equipment. Additionally, Steinhart Park offers tennis courts, horseshoe courts, an Olympic size swimming pool and a number of baseball diamonds. Also included are two public golf courses and the State Park Marina and Campground on the Missouri River.
