Neligh is located in
Antelope County (of which it is the county seat) 27 miles west of
Norfolk between
Tilden and Clearwater along Hwy 275 on the banks of the Elkhorn River near
Willow Creek State Recreation Area.
In 1872, John Neligh, impressed by the advantage offered by the Elkhorn River for water power, purchased land from the Omaha & Northwestern Railroad. Surveyed in 1873, its plat was not filed until 1875.
Some popular attractions in Neligh are the Ashfall Fossil Beds State Museum, Starlite Drive-in, Pierson Wildlife Museum and the Neligh Mill Historic Site.
