Plattsmouth is located in Cass County (and is the county seat), along the Missouri River at the mouth of the Platte River, just south of Omaha and 50 miles northeast of the State Capitol in Lincoln. This community is served by U.S. Hwy's 34 and 75 and State Hwy 66.

Plattsmouth is part of the Omaha, Nebraska-Iowa metropolitan area.
