This community is located in
Colfax County (and is the county seat), between
Columbus and
Fremont along US Hwy 30.
Schuyler was named for Schuyler Colfax, Vice President of the US with President Ulysses S. Grant. It was first known as Shell Creek Station and was a railhead and cattle loading post. The name is pronounced Sky-ler. It was named the county seat of Colfax County on 15 Mary 1869. It was incorporated in June of 1870.
The Schuyler parks system consists of two parks covering approximately 155 acres. Facilities include a swimming pool, fishing ponds, five ball diamonds, overnight camping, lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball court, fitness courts and playground equipment. The Schuyler area enjoys a wide variety of hunting with deer, rabbits, quail, ducks and pheasants widely available. Excellent fishing for crappie, bass, blue gills, perch, northern pike and catfish are all available in the local ponds, lakes and the Platte River.
