Wauneta Nebraska

Wauneta is located in Chase County northwest of McCook, between Imperial and Hamlet along US Hwy 6 and the Creek river. This community is also situated just east of Enders Reservoir State Rec Area.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 630, a decrease of 45 since 1990.

The first settlers of Wauneta were George Rowley and his wife who came here in 1875. Mrs. Rowley played and sang for the trappers, cowboys and other settlers when they stopped in to rest.One of their favorites was a Spanish love song, Juanita. When the town was founded in 1887, the town was named for this song.
