Placentia is located on the eastern shore of Placentia Bay on the west side of the Avalon Peninsula. It was established by the French in 1662. In 1941, the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and the American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt drew up the Atlantic Charter on a warship near Placentia.
