Bradford is located in Merrimack County. First granted in 1771, the town was originally named new Bradford, then Bradfordton, and then finally Bradford when it was incorporated in 1787, the year of the constitutional convention. New Hampshire's delegation was not going to approved the constitution, but under the leadership of Bradford's Thomas Stickney, the constitution was ratified. New Hampshire being the ninth state to do so, made the U.S. Constitution the law of the land.

Area attractions include Mount Sunapee State Park, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, and Lake Massasecum.
