Danbury is located in Merrimack County. The town was formed in 1793 from part of Alexandria to the north and later added land annexed from Wilmot and Hill. Not part of an original Colonial land grant, Danbury was settled and then incorporated in 1795. The town was originally named after Danbury, England, the site of an eleventh century Danish camp. There is also a Danbury, CT, which is said to have been named after the same camp.
