Franklin New Hampshire |
Franklin is located in Merrimack County, 10 miles southwest of Laconia between Tilton and Lochmere along Highway 11, on the banks of the Merrimack River. It was originally called Pemigewasset Village and was taken from portions of Salisbury, Andover, Sanbornton and Northfield. It is located near the confluence of the Pemigewasset River and Winnepesaukee River. The name Franklin was adopted in 1820 in honor of Benjamin Franklin and was incorporated as a city in 1895.
Visitors to Franklin will enjoy the many amenities of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, including nearby Lake Winnipesaukee where one can take a cruise of the lake with Mount Washington Cruises, enjoy the old fashioned carnival at Weirs Beach, and what appears to be the only deck-covered railroad bridge left in the United States Sulphite Bridge.
