The Historical Society Library and Museum has a 20,000-item collection of artifacts, ranging from a continental dollar to an 1870 bed. Shipbuilding, one of the county's major 19th-century industries, is represented by boat models, paintings and tools. Other items include American Indian stone implements, weapons, furniture and turn-of-the-20th-century clothing. The historical society's library is open to the public for genealogical research. Guided tours are available.
