The Newark Public Library has a collection of approximately 1,453,000 volumes.
This is one of the largest public libraries in the state and a major resource center. It contains large collections about the history of the city and state, fine arts, business and current affairs. Also housed in the 1901 library are more than 1 million books, pictures and periodicals. Changing exhibits are presented. Open Monday-Saturday 9am-5:30pm, and Tuesday-Thursday evenings 5:30-8:30pm; closed state and federal holidays. Admission is free.
