The Borough of Sussex is in Sussex County and is part of the Newark, New Jersey metropolitan area. It is located at the junction of State Highway 23 and State Route 284, about two miles west of the Wallkill River and eight miles southwest of the New York State line. Nearby are Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge, Hamburg, and Beemerville.
