Originally from the Champagne region of France, the Gruet family founded their first Champagne House in 1952. The family came to the US in 1981, choosing New Mexico as the ideal location to create sparking wines due to its perfect climate and soil conditions, and began winemaking here in 1984. The Gruet wines are now available nationally from New York to Hawaii. The winery offers tours and tastings outdoors on the patio, or indoors, as well as a reception area which is available for weddings and banquets.
