Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park |
The park derives its name from the fossils of ancient marine reptiles that swam in the warm ocean which covered central Nevada 225 million years ago. Their giant fossils are on display at the park's Fossil House, which attracts visitors from around the world. The turn-of-the-century mining town of Berlin is also preserved in the park, extensive sign system relates the town's history for self-guided exploring. The park, at an elevation of 7,000 feet, is located 23 miles east of Gabbs, via Route 844. Facilities include camping units, restrooms, RV sanitary station, picnic day use area. Tours of the Berlin townsite, fossil shelter and Diana Mine are available.
