Athens is located in
Greene County 35 miles South of
Albany between Coxsackie and Catskill along Highway 385 on the banks of the
Hudson River near Bristol Beach State Park. It is in the
Southern Region of the state.
Named after the Greek city at one time was called Esperanza, after a dream by the Livingstons that it would become a major market city for western produce.
