Clinton is located in
Oneida County 10 miles SW of
Utica along Highway 12B near Hamilton College and is part of the
Central Region of the state. Clinton is part of the
Utica-Rome, New York metro area.
The city was named after Gov. George Clinton and was once an iron-mining center; Indians had used the local hematite for war paint.
