Horseheads is located in
Chemung County just north of
Elmira along Highway 14 and is in the
Western Region of the state. The local museum houses the works of political cartoonist Eugene 'Zim' Zimmerman.
Horseheads is part of the Elmira, New York metro area.
Its name originated due to Revolutionary forces that slaughtered their starving horses here for food, leaving the heads for carrion.
