Hyde Park is located in Dutchess County, 8 miles north of Poughkeepsie near Norrie State Park and in the Southern Region of the state. Hyde Park is the home and summer White House of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The city also is the home of the Culinary Institute of America, a vocational training school for aspiring chefs. The school was founded in 1946 with 16 students; its most recent enrollment is about 1,800. The institute occupies a former Jesuit Seminary on U.S. Highway 9 overlooking the Hudson River.
