Hyde Park is the home and summer White House of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The city also is the home of the Culinary Institute of America, a vocational training school for aspiring chefs. The school was founded in 1946 with 16 students; its most recent enrollment is about 1,800. The institute occupies a former Jesuit Seminary on U.S. Highway 9 overlooking the Hudson River.
