Penn Yan is located in
Yates County, (of which it is the county seat), between
Watkins Glen and Geneva on the western side of
Seneca Lake, (one of the
Finger Lakes), on Highway 14A at the northern most tip of Keuka Lake. It is in the
Western Region of the state.
It name is a compromise between Pennsylvanians and New Englanders and was once the winter home of the "Great James M. Cole Circus". Many Amish and Mennonite families have moved to the region in recent decades
