Sleepy Hollow New York

Sleepy Hollow, North Tarrytown until 1996 when the residents voted to change the town's name, is on the east bank of the Hudson River between Tarrytown and Ossining on Hwy 448 in the Southern Region of the state. In 1680, near where the Pocatico River flows into the Hudson, Frederick Philipse built a stone house, a church and other buildings. The church was popularized by Washington Irving in `The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.' The Rockefellers commissioned several works of art to adorn a small chapel known as the Union Church of Pocantico Hills. Inside is a cycle of stained-glass windows by Marc Chagall and a rose window by Henri Matisse.

Sleepy Hollow is part of the New York, New York metro area.
