Suffern is located in
Rockland County on the New Jersey state line off I87 near the
Hudson River in the
Southern Region of the state. Suffern is part of the
New York, New York metro area.
It was named after John Suffern a settler and the Erie Railroad brought summer tourists here in the 19th century. Well-known residents have included: Tim Daly, actor and Valerie Harper, actress.
