Chillicothe is located in southern Ohio in Ross County (of which it is the county seat) on the banks of the Scioto River about 40 miles south of Columbus.Local attractions include the Ross County Museum; the Chillicothe Gazette; Adena State Memorial; Great Seal State Park about 5 miles north of town; Scioto Trail State Park, Caldwell Lake, Stewart Hollow Lake and Scioto Trail Forest all within 10 miles to the south-southeast and Ross Lake just northeast of the city limits. Golfers can select from Running Fox Golf Course, a public 27-hole complex where one can mix-and-match any two nines for their 18-hole round; Chillicothe Country Club, a private club but with a reciprocal guest policy for members of other clubs; Dogwood Hills Golf Course, a public 18-holer and Jaycee Public Golf Course, also a public 18-hole layout.
