The town is home to Hiram College which is noted for its unique scholastic study formats. Within the traditional 15-week semester are a 12-week session covering four subjects and a 3-week session where only one subject is intensely covered. Recreation in the area includes outings to Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park about 5 miles east of town. LaDue Reservoir is about 10 highway miles to the northeast as well.
