Salem, founded in 1896 by the Friends denomination (Quakers), is located in northeastern Ohio and straddles the Columbiana County
line 60 miles southeast of Cleveland
and 15 miles southwest of Youngstown
. As an anecdote, the city was the site of the first Women's Rights Convention in Ohio in 1850.
The city is home to several public golf courses--among them the Flying B Golf Course and Salem Hills Golf & Country Club who offer 18-hole facilities as well as Pine Meadows Golf Course and Buck Run Golf Course who provide 9-hole layouts. Salem Golf Club is a private 18-holer but has a guest policy allowing members of other clubs to play.
